Nature and History Experience

The guests of the event will begin their first experiential tour, accompanied by specialist local guides, inside the ancient village of Aritzo. They will visit the parish church of Saint Michael Archangel, the 17th-century Spanish Prisons, maximum security until the mid-20th century (and where some of Napoleon’s French officers were held), characterized by an underground passage known as sa Bovida. Today they are the setting for Bruxas, a fascinating exhibition on witchcraft, instruments of torture and the Holy Inquisition in Sardinia. The excursion will continue ‘On the paths of the Bruxas’, a historical and natural trail leading participants outside the village: here they will find and learn about the famous medical herbs the Bruxas used to cure the people of the village; visitors will also be accompanied on their journey by a narrating voice that will engage them with anecdotes and legends. They will also plunge into the chestnut and hazelnut woods, discover the natural monument Texile, a dolomite rock in the shape of a mushroom. In addition, if weather conditions are favourable, they will reach the celebrated ‘neviere’ (snow houses), deep wells dating back to the 17th century, where they will be able to admire the Sa Funtana Cungiada, at a height of 1300 metres, among ferns and junipers and near the church of Our Lady of the Snows.
